The Islamic Texts Society is a publishing house founded in 1981 and registered as an educational charity in the UK (reg. no. 283832). The Society produces English translations of works of traditional importance to the Islamic faith and culture, including editions of hitherto unpublished manuscripts, and also sponsors contemporary works on Islamic subjects by scholars from all parts of the world. The Society hopes thereby to promote a greater understanding of Islam among both Muslims and non-Muslims, catering for laypersons as well as academics in the field of Islamic studies.

To date the Society has published over sixty books on various aspects of Islam and the Islamic heritage, ranging from the best-selling and award-winning biography by Martin Lings, Muhammad: His Life Based on the Earliest Sources, generally acknowledged as the best book in English on the Prophet Muhammad, through works of hadith, jurisprudence and sufism. One of the major and on-going projects of the Society is the publication in English of the most important works of the great medieval theologian Muhammad Abu Hamid al-Ghazali. So far eight volumes have appeared in this series, of which two have won the British Book Design and Production Award for the best general paperback: Al-Ghazali on Invocations and Supplications (1991) and Al-Ghazali on The Ninety-nine Beautiful Names of God (1993). The high quality of content and book-production to which the Islamic Texts Society is committed have become the hallmark of its publications. The long term aim of the Islamic texts Society is to provide a comprehensive library on Islam and its various disciplines.

As a registered charity, the Islamic Texts Society is dependent on fundraising to achieve its aims and objectives. If you are interested in supporting the activities of the Islamic Texts Society, please contact us at funds@its.org.uk.
