They provide the service of introducing the most important newly published foreign books, which have not yet been translated into Arabic, by monitoring the movement of foreign publishing, selecting a selection of books issued, then introducing them, and providing bibliographic data for each book.

In this way, it is possible to get acquainted with the latest creations of the minds of scientists, writers and thinkers, and keep up with what the international publishing houses have issued in the classifications of science, arts, literature and knowledge, and transfer all this to the Arab reader; to encourage him first to read, and then to educate him and introduce him to the movement and production of culture in the world.

What distinguishes the project

1-it is an open electronic window on knowledge that addresses more than 370 million Arabic-speaking people, and looks forward to creating a cultural climate open to the world, and seeks to provide new and promising opportunities to activate the translation movement and the prosperity of the Arab Book Market.

2-it is a new cultural and media platform of its kind in the Arab world; it probes the creative minds of scientists, writers and thinkers around the world, and monitors the movement of foreign publishing; to provide the service of introducing the most important newly issued foreign books that have not yet been translated into Arabic.

3-it provides new and distinctive cultural and media services to a wide range of readers interested in permanent access to modern international books in their fields of specialization and in all languages of the world, and also provides practical services to facilitate coordination and communication with thought and creative institutions and thousands of Arab and foreign publishers.

The project is based on the importance of supporting the cultural aspect and access to knowledge and information for the participation of people in the Renaissance and development of the societies in which they live and the promotion of intercultural understanding.

Accordingly, cultural workers had to keep up with these changes, and then invest them in creating innovative services that create a new cultural climate that contributes to spreading enlightenment and creating awareness.. Hence, the idea of the “global books platform” arose in order to be an Arab cultural initiative and a pioneering Enlightenment project to keep pace with the global progress in science and knowledge, encourage the translation movement and revive reading habits and the concept of culture among the Arab citizen.

Stages of the project

The plan of this ambitious project has been prepared to be launched in four stages to be completed in four years:

The first stage

It aims to introduce new books published in the major world languages, namely: (English -, French – and German), during which the focus was on the major publishing houses in the countries of: (America – Britain – France – Germany – Canada – Australia – Switzerland – Austria).

The second stage

It aims to introduce new books published in other European languages such as: (Russian, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Scandinavian languages).

The third stage

It aims to introduce new books published in Near Eastern languages such as: (Turkish, Persian, Hebrew, Hindi and Urdu).

The fourth stage

It aims to introduce new books published in Far Eastern languages such as: (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Indonesian, Malaysian).

Project components

(Sections: foreign books)

each foreign language has a main section.. Seven subsections of book classifications branch off from it, covering all scientific and cognitive fields.. Namely: (sciences-arts – cultures-ideas – development – politics-economics).

Data and presentations of books with covers are published in the section devoted to them according to their classification.

The building blocks and foundations of the project have been laid and the first of its four phases has been implemented.. It is the special stage of the language departments: (English -, French – and German).. During this period, the publications of about 1000 major international publishing houses were catalogued and selected.. And continuous follow-up of new books and the translation of their data into Arabic, after setting specific criteria for the selection of important books of value and excellence.
