Stella Gaetano is an award-winning writer and political activist.
Born and raised in Khartoum, Sudan, she studied pharmacy, then English and Arabic.
She started writing during her studies and soon joined the Sudanese Writers Union.
When South Sudan gained independence in 2011, she suddenly found herself a stranger in her homeland. As the daughter of South Sudanese parents, she became considered South Sudanese and had to leave the country the following year. She settled in Juba, the capital of South Sudan.
