The sound of war is the agonizing cries of traumatized children
Child psychologist Kathrin Glatz-Broback heard these stories daily while leading a team of local staff at Nasser Hospital in the Gaza Strip in August 2024. “Diary from Gaza” is the writing of an aid worker in a war zone, recounting the stories of the children, parents, and colleagues she encountered: Adam, five years old, who became completely withdrawn after witnessing his father’s death; Aisha, eight years old, suffering from severe burns and intense anxiety; Rami, twelve years old, who is almost unable to eat in despair after losing his parents; Amina, Balousha, and the other Palestinian hospital staff who risk their lives daily to get to work.
“Diary from Gaza” reveals the devastating impact of war on people. At a time when international media are barred from Gaza, the book documents the profound suffering endured by the entire population. At the same time, the book is a testament to people’s will to help one another, especially in maintaining hope. It is a moving human story of resilience in the face of devastating losses.
