The harm of racism extends beyond society itself, impacting the health of those affected. It leaves its mark on both body and soul, with profound effects on mental well-being. The author combines her research methodology with her perspective as a post-immigrant. Reflecting on her personal experiences as a secular individual of Iranian descent in Germany, she examines how social exclusion affects identity formation and mental health. Whether it’s accusing a student of causing chaos in kindergarten or assuming they can’t understand a textbook in high school, the criticism is always unjustified, but the fear and its consequences are pervasive and real.
Mahasa Bhadjatpour embarks on a journey through diverse realities, from her childhood in a socially disadvantaged area to her university experiences. She also explores the role of art as a potential means of empowerment and healing. This blend of autobiography, research, and artistic practice opens new perspectives for anyone interested in learning more about the complex links between racism and health, whether they are victims, interested parties, or professionals. The book invites the reader to understand these connections and consider possible paths to self-empowerment.
