In the summer of 1944, sixty Special Air Service (SAS) soldiers were deployed on a secret commando operation: Operation Lloyd. They ended up behind enemy lines in the Regimental Mountains, sabotaging Nazi roads, railways, and ammunition depots, thus breaking Hitler’s last line of defense. Despite their successes, more than half the men were captured, tortured, and executed.

Although the SAS was officially disbanded at the end of the war, Churchill personally ordered the formation of a highly secretive operations unit. Its purpose was to hunt down the SS commanders who had murdered their fellow SAS members and to bring to justice the most heinous war criminals who had escaped the Nuremberg trials. These Nazi hunters waged a secret war of justice and revenge, exposing the horrors of Hitler’s regime, the dark side of Stalinist Russia, and the growing danger of what would later become the Cold War.
