Islamist Political Thought in Turkey

الفكر السياسي الإسلامي في تركيا

Not Translated

Political Islam is an influential political force in contemporary Türkiye. But what are the roots of this ideology? This book provides an intellectual history of political Islam in Türkiye, tracing the thought of key figures from the late Ottoman Empire to the modern era.By studying the works of Namik Kemal, Said Halim Pasha, Said Nursi, Ali Bulaj, and others, the book places these figures and their works in a historical context, explaining the origins of their ideas and how they changed as Turkey moved from a constitutional political system to an autocratic regime and then to a more democratic political system, with the decline of democracy and the rise of tyranny today. The book also addresses the rise of political Islam as a political movement in the late twentieth century, and provides an important vision of the intellectual background of political Islam in contemporary Turkey under the rule of the Justice and Development Party led by Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
