The Book of Legend is the latest autobiography and literary testimonials issued by Grassier Publishing House in June of the year two thousand and twenty-six. It was written by the famous Francophone novelist and thinker Boualem Sansal, a member of the French Academy. The book provides a condensed and documented prose account of a bitter experience that the writer went through, as the pages of the work were written within only forty days following his release from prison. The origin of the story dates back to the end of the year two thousand and twenty-four, when the author was arrested at the airport in Algiers on charges related to harming national unity and incitement, following historical and political statements he made. The writer spent nearly a full year inside penal institutions and prisons, amid a broad European and international solidarity campaign from his fellow writers and human rights institutions, until he was released under a presidential pardon in late 2005 after intense diplomatic efforts. This book came to represent the literary and intellectual responseThe author's first and most public account of that long ordeal.
