New nationalism: The rise of nativist populism in the West

This book monitors the growth of the far-right phenomenon in Europe and the United States, and its author - who specializes in studying right-wing movements and their political and economic repercussions - traces the roots that contributed to the revival of nationalism in its contemporary form. He believes that this return was based on two basic pillars: populism and nativism, which crystallized through three successive historical waves that collectively formed what the author calls “new nationalism.”This phenomenon would not have occupied this position on the global political scene had it not been for the electoral success achieved by right-wing parties and movements since the beginning of the twenty-first century in a number of Western countries, which redrew the political map and brought back to the fore a nationalist and exclusionary discourse that, in many of its features, evokes the atmosphere of Europe before its two world wars, even if today it has taken more populist forms and the ability to exploit the media and public opinion.This book reminds us that the West, which in the twentieth century witnessed the rise of nationalist, colonial, and totalitarian regimes that led to wars that claimed the lives of hundreds of millions and contributed to the consolidation of patterns of domination and colonialism, the most prominent manifestations of which was the Zionist project, is not immune to the return of similar tendencies, albeit with more modern tools and discourses.
