There is no such thing as public opinion

لا يوجد شيء اسمه الرأي العام

No product is launched without a prior poll, and no election is held without an in-depth search of public opinion. Contemporary societies seem incapable of functioning without opinion polls. Unfortunately, there is no subject for these surveys per se. This research is not science, no matter how much it presents itself as such.

Pierre Bourdieu reveals that opinion polls are used as tools in conflict to determine social reality. They are by no means neutral, but intentionally produce something that otherwise would not exist: public opinion.
