XO Éditions is a French publishing house founded by publisher Bernard Fixot. It is considered one of the publishers that successfully combine commercial ambition with literary quality, focusing on a limited number of titles each year in order to provide substantial support for every book.
Vision and Editorial Model
Among the publisher’s main goals is to release works aimed at a broad audience, both in France and internationally, by licensing translation rights to other countries.
XO deliberately targets a small number of releases—around 15 to 20 titles per year—so that each work receives the necessary attention and marketing resources.
This strategy has enabled the house to discover new talents and to bring several French authors back onto bestseller lists.
Achievements and Publications
Over nearly 20 years, XO has published more than 450 titles. About 70% of these entered bestseller lists, and 60% were translated or published abroad.
Notable authors include Guillaume Musso, Bernard Minier, Christian Jacq, Max Gallo, Mike Horn, Nicolas Vanier, among others.
The house also publishes testimonials and social studies, including works addressing societal issues such as violence or education.
Examples of historical publications include The Rise of Egypt by Christian Jacq, which explores ancient history narratives.
Structure and Direction
XO is part of the Editis Group, giving it strong distribution and marketing resources.
In October 2023, it was announced that Bernard Fixot would become Honorary President, while Édith Leblond assumed the role of Chief Executive Officer.
The Publisher and Its Founder
Bernard Fixot is an experienced publisher who worked at major publishing houses before founding XO, and he has a clear ambition to “bring French authors back to the forefront.”
Despite XO’s commercial success, it remains committed to an artistic vision: publishing a limited number of books, but with great care devoted to each title.
