Black Cat

In the 1960s, Barney Rossett sought to bring the masterpieces of Grove Press to a wider audience. The fruit of his vision was Black Cat Publishing, a new publishing house that issued inexpensive paperbacks of some masterpieces of modern literature, aimed at the general public. Black Cat's publications include novels such as "Tropic of Cancer" by Henry Miller and "The Naked Lunch" by William S. Burroughs, Hubert Selby Jr.'s The Last Exit to Brooklyn, Jack Kerouac's The Underground Dwellers, and many other works from Grove Press.In 1984, Black Cat Publishing was discontinued - along with its distinctive Roy Coleman-designed logo depicting a round cat face - but both the publishing house and logo were revived in 2004.
