Just as common milkweed is home to the transformation of monarch butterflies, Milkweed Editions seeks to be home to transformation in the world of literature. We venture into supporting new and experimental writers, invest significant time and effort in the editorial process, and enable lively interaction between writers and readers. We work as a non-profit organization to achieve these goals without burdensome financial pressures. However, although profit is not our primary goal, the success of our writers is our ultimate goal. Therefore, since our founding in 1980, we have published more than 350A book of fiction, non-fiction, and poetry, we now have more than six million copies in circulation. We believe that literature has the power to change our view of the world, and that providing new voices with the opportunity to participate in essential dialogues is the best way to ensure a vibrant, diverse, and empowered future.
