In 1963, Vancouver poet Bill Bisset founded Blueprint Press and began publishing mimeograph magazines of experimental poetry.Within a few years, Bisset, known for his works in sound and visual poetry, began publishing books that expanded the horizons of language and visual image, including works by P. with me. Nicol, Steve McCaffrey, Andrew Suknaski, Lionel Kearns, D. any. Levi. The activities of Blueprint Press were widely acclaimed and had a profound impact on the Canadian literary community.In 1983, Blueprint Publishing was sold to David Lee and Maureen Cochrane in Ontario, who renamed it Nightwood Editions. During this era, the house published a wide range of titles, on topics as diverse as jazz, poetry, novels, and films.In the early 1990s, Governor General's Award-winning children's book illustrator Kim La Fave took over the publishing house and added a beautiful collection of West Coast-themed children's book titles, some of which remain some of Nightwood's most popular and widely circulated books.
