Breakwater publishes award-winning literary works in all genres, from novels, non-fiction, poetry, plays, art, books for children and young adults, as well as cookbooks, travel guides and resources.Educational.

Breakwater Publishing is proud to have helped launch the literary careers of such distinguished writers as Bernice Morgan, Kevin Major, Ray Guy, Mary Dalton, Tom Dow, Trudy J. Morgan Cole, Helen Porter, and Al Bateman. In recent years, we have helped launch the careers of emerging writers, including Bridget Canning, Megan Gale Coles, Terry Doyle, Sharon Bala, Morgan Murray and Michelle Porter.We have published works by award-winning children's literature authors and illustrators, including George Murray, Eileen Bryan Obed, Kara Kansala, Sakamu Misile Go, and Adam and Jennifer Young. We are committed to showcasing the work of Newfoundland and Labrador's finest visual artists, featuring works by up-and-coming artists on the covers of many of our literary publications, as well as publishing carefully selected full-length art books, including works by Jean-Claude Roy, Gerald Squires, Christopher Pratt and Pam Hall.Since the early 1980s, our backlist demonstrates an ongoing commitment to the works of indigenous writers, including writers from the Miawpokek First Nation, the Kalibo Mi'kmaq First Nation, and Red River Métis writers.We have published works in the Mi'kmaq language, and have produced a book in the four living languages ​​of Labrador: English, French, Inu-Imun, and Inuitut. Our portfolio of previous work also includes bilingual addresses to and from the small but active French-speaking population on the west coast of Newfoundland. We have translated and published works by international writers and writers from French Canada, which complement our list of works and our mission.Breakwater Publishing has proven time and again its resilience and ability to remain a vital contributor to the Canadian publishing industry. In 2008, Jesperson Publishing in Newfoundland merged with Breakwater, and in 2017, Breakwater made the bold move of acquiring Creative Book Publishing in St. John's. This was a huge cultural investment, bringing together the two most powerful literary publishers in the province, and increasing our publication catalog to over six hundred active titles, representing the largest acquisition of this kind in the history ofBoycott.
