Talon Books is an independent and well-established Canadian publishing house, founded in the city of Vancouver, British Columbia, in the year one thousand nine hundred and sixty-three. The journey of this institution began as a thesis and a poetry magazine founded by David Robinson in cooperation with a group of his fellow students in high school, and later moved with them to the university, transforming in the year one thousand nine hundred and eighty-seven into an integrated publishing house for books. Throughout its long history, which spans more than six decades, the house has succeeded in preserving...Its complete independence has become, today, one of the largest and most prominent independent literary publishing houses in Canada, and its publications have won hundreds of prestigious literary awards at the national and international levels.

The house is distinguished by a courageous and unique publishing philosophy that focuses primarily and strongly on three main literary fields: theater, poetry, and works of fiction and short stories. The house gained exceptional international fame as the largest and most important publisher of Canadian plays and dramas, as it contributed to documenting and building the country’s theatrical identity.The house also has a long history of adopting and publishing literary translations coming from the province of Quebec, in addition to possessing one of the largest directories of knowledge dedicated to celebrating the voices and writings of indigenous people on the North American continent. The house’s publications expand to include non-fiction and non-fiction prose books concerned with environmental issues, social justice, cultural studies, and literary criticism.The house deals with publishing as a cultural and enlightening message that aims to represent cultural diversity and multiply the voices of underrepresented minorities in the markets.
