The institution expanded in the year one thousand nine hundred and three by establishing a special and integrated department for book publishing, which, under the management of the founder’s five sons, succeeded in transforming into the largest publishing house in the entire continent of Europe during the twenties of the last century.The house faced a major historical ordeal and forced confiscation during the Nazi era due to the Jewish origins of the founder's family, before the family regained ownership after World War II.
