IGI Global offers premier and peer-reviewed content in both print and electronic formats to international researchers, librarians, and universities, and actively publishes under five imprints —Information Science Reference, Business Science Reference, Medical Information Science Reference, Engineering Science Reference, and IGI Publishing.
IGI Global book and journal publications are highly cited in a number of prestigious indices. IGI Global book titles are indexed in: Thomson Reuters Book Citation Index, the DBLP Computer Science Bibliography, ERIC – Education Resources Information Center, and ACM Digital Library, and are also visible in the CrossRef linking network. IGI Global’s journal titles are found in more than 75 different prestigious indices, with some of the more prominent being: Thomson Reuters, Scopus, Compendex, PsycINFO, INSPEC, and Cabell’s Directories.
IGI Global book titles are sold individually and are also offered within a number of bundling options, such as Book Series and Topic Collections. IGI Global currently has close to 40 book series and more than 30 topic collections. Each Book Series has an ISSN assigned to it as well as an established Editor-in-Chief. There are 3 different purchasing options for Book Series: 1) the opportunity to purchase titles individually, 2) purchase all titles in each book series for one fixed discounted price, and 3) place a standing order for future releases. Topic Collections hold between 16 – 22 titles in each. They encompass very specialized topic areas of interest. These collections have ISBNs assigned to them and can be purchased at a fraction of the individual list price.
In 2002, IGI Global’s electronic presence greatly increased with the launch of the InfoSci®-Database platform. Over the past 10+ years, this line of electronic resources has grown to include: InfoSci®-Journals, InfoSci®-Books, InfoSci®-Disciplines, InfoSci®-Subject Databases, InfoSci®-Cases, InfoSci®-OnDemand, and InfoSci®-Dictionary. These full-text databases are updated weekly and offer access to IGI Global’s entire collection of book, journal and case publications in a state-of-the-art, XML-powered platform and search engine that includes CrossRef, COUNTER compliant statistics, and a single personalized gateway. Whether an institution or consortium subscribes to individual e-books, e-journals or a premier research database, all members can take advantage of the XML-powered research content which enables a full-text searching and ranking system, enhanced search options, scaffolding to display the search pattern, and several options to refine searches with filtering.
In 2013, as an effort to better serve year-end library budgets and multiple consumer requests, IGI Global introduced a new database purchasing option, InfoSci®-Select. This purchasing option allows institutions to select their own titles from IGI Global’s collection of more than 2,500+ book titles and create a database that fits their budget, meets their institution’s research needs, and enjoy the benefits of the InfoSci®-Database platform functionality.
IGI Global also offers a number of value-added FREE electronic resources, such as Online Educational Symposiums. These sessions are hosted by international experts in the field and cover an assortment of topics. Participants can take advantage of these seminars in real-time or view previous recordings.
This year has held many “firsts” for the company, specifically, the launch of a new Open Access system. This system offers the valuable opportunity for researchers to share their work in an open forum by becoming a paper author and/or a reviewer. Authors can retain their copyright, and still receive a number of publication benefits such as rigorous and expeditious peer-reviews and greater visibility for their ground-breaking research.
