Katja has been working as a volunteer in refugee aid for almost 20 years. It supports people with their first steps in Germany, accompanies them to official visits, teaches German, is the contact person with worries and needs, takes care when children are not sent to school or women do not want to accompany the doctor. It is there for people who come to Germany in large numbers. And she draws a sobering conclusion by saying, “No, Frau Merkel, we can not do it!”
In the course of her work, Katja Schneidt had to realize how overwhelming politics, administration and authorities really are. How defenseless the German state is to those who confuse hospitality with a self-service shop, how great the incomprehension of many refugees of our culture is, and how inadequate an army of volunteers can replace a well thought-out, organized integration policy.
Katja Schneidt says where the problems lie and what has to change so that refugees arrive in the new home and also benefits our society from all the new citizens. Currently she does not. And Katja Cutt knows what she is talking about.
Am 31. August 2015 sagte Angela Merkel den Satz, der zum Leitmotiv ihrer Flüchtlingspolitik werden sollte: „Wir schaffen das!“ Heute, nachdem Hunderttausende Menschen mehr nach Deutschland gekommen sind, sehen viele diese Aussage kritisch. Nicht zuletzt die Menschen, die den Flüchtlingen aktiv bei ihrem Neuanfang helfen. Katja Schneidt ist eine von ihnen. Sie erlebt jeden Tag die Realität der Erstauffangeinrichtungen: Als Ansprechpartnerin für die Flüchtlinge begleitet sie diese bei Behördengängen, gibt Deutschkurse, versucht, ihnen zu vermitteln, was Leben in Deutschland bedeutet. Dabei zieht sie eine ernüchternde Bilanz und sagt: „Wir schaffen es eben nicht, all diese Menschen zu integrieren.“ Die Gründe dafür sind vielfältig: eine Integrationspolitik, die zu wenig auf Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe setzt, sondern eine teilweise überzogene Erwartungshaltung der Flüchtlinge weiter fördert; mangelnde Integrationsbereitschaft unter den Flüchtlingen; zu wenige professionelle Strukturen innerhalb der Flüchtlingshilfe. Katja Schneidt ist alles andere als ausländerfeindlich oder rechts, aber sie sagt, wo es hapert und was sich ändern muss, damit unsere Gesellschaft eine Chance bekommt.
