P. Dr. theol. Anselm Grün OSB was born on 14 January 1945 in the Franconian town of Junkershausen. He spent his childhood in Munich. In the electrical business of his parents, he was already selling light bulbs and flashlights there as a small boy.
At the age of 19 he became Benediktinermönch in the Abbey of Münsterschwarzach near Würzburg. There, Father Anselm became acquainted with the art of humanity as a rule by Benedict of Nursia, and in the 1970s he again discovered the tradition of the old fathers of the fathers, whose importance he especially regards in connection with modern psychology.
