This book offers groundbreaking insights into relationship theory, exploring patient and analyst aspirations to know, to be known, and not to be known in psychoanalytic relationships, and the embodied nature of the healing process.Research shows that recognizing a patient's uniqueness, which cannot be fully captured through empathy, contributes to ethical therapeutic practices. Although there are few psychoanalytic books that shed light on the work of the philosopher Michel Foucault, Brothers and Slevold found many very important aspects in it. They also demonstrate the strong influence of culture, history, politics and world events on the therapeutic encounter.
