In the Twelfth District, Haimitch Abernathy tries not to think too much about his fortunes. He is taken away from his family and his lover, and is transported to the Capitol with the three other contestants from District 12: a young friend who is like a sister to him, a gambling obsessive, and the most arrogant girl in town. As the Games begin, Haymitch realizes that he has been put in an awkward position.
