“Kokani Muslims: Children of the Season” examines the unknown world of a coastal community whose story began 1,300 years ago, when Arab and Persian traders, riding the winds of the season, came to the Konkan trading region. The rulers of the region welcomed them, settled there, and their compatriots came to them as refugees in times of persecution, which marked the beginning of the Kokani Muslim community. As locals converted and Muslim immigrants joined them, the community grew, giving rise to a diverse culture. Today, about a quarter of a million kokanee are spread around the world, most of them in India. The book also sheds light on some little-known Kokan characters.
