لماذا يُعدّ أفلاطون مهماً الآن

In this compelling and intelligent book, Professor Angie Hobbs proves that Plato is more important than ever.

Does Plato still matter? Although an ancient philosopher whose works have inspired and influenced countless thinkers and poets throughout the ages, his ideas are no longer as widely taught as they once were.

But, as Angie Hobbs argues in this lucid book, that is a mistake. If we want to understand the world we live in—from democracy, tyranny, and fake news to celebrities, cancel culture, and what money can and cannot do—there is no better place to start than Plato.

By exploring the intersection between ancient and modern, Professor Hobbs shows how Plato can help us address key questions regarding the nature of flourishing life and society, health care, love and friendship, heroism, reality, art and myth-making.It also shows us how Plato's adaptation of the Socratic method and form of dialogue can enable us to deal with disputed issues more constructively.

This book explains Plato's methodology, arguments, ideas, and vivid images with clarity suitable for readers familiar with his works and those wishing to learn about Plato for the first time. The book shows Plato's true importance, today more than ever.
