Freeling Verlag is centrally located in the quiet district of Friedenau, where an atmosphere of Berlin's literary creativity prevails. Famous writers such as Uwe Jonsson, Günter Grass, Erich Kastner and Herta Müller settled here to write.
Freeling Verlag was founded in 1983 by publisher Wilhelm Ruprecht Freeling with the slogan “The publisher is looking for authors!”.Over the years, thanks to its extensive publishing programme, it has developed into a competent partner for unknown authors looking for a publisher. Along with novels, poetry, anthologies, self-development books, and non-fiction books, biography and contemporary history have become her main areas of focus.
In 2002, the experienced publisher Dr. Johann Friedrich Hoffmann took over the management of the publishing house, and in 2005 he launched the Berlin-Brandenburg Contemporary Witness Prize, which has established itself as a regional writing competition.
