Crime stories with distinctive characters, and authors who have a unique talent for creating exciting stories. This combination of quality and originality, often mixed with a generous dose of black humour, makes KBV one of the most successful German publishers in the field of crime fiction.

The list of writers who have found in KBV Publishing a creative haven is long and ever-growing. However, one name is always mentioned when talking about the publishing house: Jack Berndorf. The best-selling author and mastermind behind the Eiffel crime novels moved to KBV Publishing in 2008, and quickly topped German bestseller lists with his novel Moon Over the Eiffel. This was followed by the novels The Norburg Papers, The Eiffel League, and The Eiffel War. KBV Verlag has reissued some out-of-print works from the early years of Sigi Baumeister's crime novel series, much to the delight of the ever-growing Berndorf community. For nearly two decades, promising young authors and veteran writers have delivered a wide range of thrilling, dark, and satirical crime stories. The Eifel region remains a prominent scene of murder and mayhem; No other publisher offers so many crime novels set in the Eifel. But crime fiction fans in the rest of Germany also associate KBV with suspense: after all, almost any place is a good place to commit literary crimes. A good example of crime novels from other regions is the anthology Murder Scenes, published since 2009, and set in locations stretching from the Baltic Sea to the Salzkammergut. More than 20 volumes of this famous series have been published so far.
