Founded in 1992 as a publishing house and database for the humanities, VDG Weimar has been located near Weimar since 2002. VDG publishes academic literature in the fields of art history, literature history, philosophy, media studies, history, and garden history, and also includes popular non-fiction and fiction books in its catalogue.
In 2014, VDG took over the management of the Bauhaus-Weimar-University publishing house, and has continued the program under the name Bauhaus-University publishing house ever since.
