From 1705 onwards, the Magdalenenstift School in Altenburg operated as a boarding school and girls' school for noble ladies for more than two centuries.
Thanks to strict Protestant upbringing that greatly influenced the students' daily lives, some of the graduates-including Fanny Zo Riventello, Maria von Thadden, Maria von Weidmeyer, Annie-Marie von Nathosius, Anna von Bonin, and Erika von Watzdorf-Bachoff-emerged as prominent figures who were emancipated despite societal constraints. This catalogue pays special attention to them and the history ofMonastery.
Numerous photographs from the monastery's own children's albums provide a vivid and engaging portrait of the monastery's life through various decades. With contributions from Jutta Koslovsky, Tony Janusz Krauss, Roland Krishke, Vincent Rudolph, Caroline Schmidt, Uwe Strömsdorfer, and Erin Welchoff.
