Founded by Macmillan in London in 1952, St. Martin’s Press has grown to become one of the preeminent publishers in the United States. From their home in the Flatiron Building in New York, St. Martin’s Press publishes under four imprints: St. Martin’s Press, Griffin, Minotaur, and Thomas Dunne Books. What defines St. Martin’s most is its ability to establish best-selling authors across a broad range of categories, from commercial women’s fiction and literary fiction to romance and young adult, to its strength in nonfiction such as military, business, science, politics, and many other categories. Tor/Forge includes the imprints Tor, Forge, Orb, Starscape, Tor Teen, and Tor Classics, and publishes many best-selling authors including Bruce Cameron, Orson Scott Card, Terry Goodkind, Robert Jordan, Eric Lustbader, Douglas Preston, Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Taylor, and David Weber. Founded in 1866 by Henry Holt and Frederick Leypoldt, Henry Holt and Company is one of the oldest trade publishers in the United States. The company publishes many acclaimed and best-selling authors, including Bill O’Reilly, the two-time Man Booker Prize-winner Hilary Mantel, Nobel Prize-winner Herta Müller, Pulitzer Prize-winner Rick Atkinson, Paul Auster, John Banville as Benjamin Black, Philip Caputo, Andy Cohen, Billy Crystal, Sheila Heti, Tony Horwitz, Erica Jong, and Del Quentin Wilber, as well as scores of other authors in the fields of literary fiction, history, biography, politics, current events, science, psychology, and mysteries and thrillers. Farrar, Straus and Giroux was founded in 1946 by Roger W. Straus, and was acquired by Holtzbrinck in 1994. The company publishes with a particular focus on literary fiction, poetry, and nonfiction. FSG authors have won extraordinary acclaim, including numerous National Book Awards, Pulitzer Prizes, and Nobel Prizes in Literature. Thomas L. Friedman, Tom Wolfe, Susan Sontag, and John McPhee are a few of the internationally known authors published by FSG over many years; its distinguished list of novelists includes Jonathan Franzen, Jeffrey Eugenides, Michael Cunningham, Alice McDermott, Roberto Bolaño, Mario Vargas Llosa, and Nadine Gordimer. Macmillan Audio records the best fiction and nonfiction available for both adults and children from Macmillan’s publishers, in addition to publishing original productions and titles from other publishers. The company’s line of products also includes the language-learning series Behind the Wheel. Our German publishers include Argon, Kiepenheuer & Witsch, Rowohlt, S. Fischer, and Droemer Knaur. With its impressive range of world literature and nonfiction works, S. Fischer, with Fischer Paperbacks, Krueger, Scherz, and S.Fischer, is the German market leader for high-quality trade publications. In 1886 in Berlin, Samuel Fischer founded the eponymous publishing company that was soon to become a leading forum for contemporary literature. Authors such as Thomas Mann, Franz Kafka, and Stefan Zweig are emblematic of this publishing house’s strong reputation in classic German Modernism. Further focus points of S. Fischer’s program are German and international contemporary literature as well as nonfiction. Fischer Paperbacks offers an exceptional platform of books, ranging from sophisticated literary books and entertaining genre fiction, to general and scientific reference and nonfiction books. Krueger is well-known for contemporary fiction, historical novels, suspense literature, and popular nonfiction books. Rowohlt was founded in 1908 by Ernst Rowohlt. The founder’s high standards continue to apply today: Rowohlt’s goal is to publish easy-to-read literature of the utmost quality. The company’s portfolio includes a broad range of international literature. Salinger, Gabriel García Márquez, Frank Schaetzing, and Nick Hornby. The publication of the entire works of Heinrich Boell is one of the most outstanding projects in the company’s history. The company is also active innonfiction, autobiographies, and self-help works. The KiWi series of paperbacks complement the company’s portfolio. Galiani focuses on contemporary German literature, historical and narrative nonfiction, and world-literature classics.
Fiction, books for popular entertainment, and the latest nonfiction works dominate the portfolio of the Droemer Knaur publishing group, which is owned 50% by Holtzbrinck. Droemer Knaur publishing group compromises several individual publishing companies. Droemer, with a well established reputation as a publisher of bestsellers, features such famous authors as Norman Mailer, John Katzenbach, Iny Lorentz, and Sebastian Fitzek. In addition to fiction books, Droemer’s portfolio also features political publications and popular science textbooks. Knaur first gained a reputation for publishing high quality self-help books, reference works, and atlases. In the 1990s, Knaur added fiction to its range of publications. Knaur Paperback covers fiction, thrillers, historical novels, and biographies. O. W. Barth is one of the most renowned and established publishers of spiritual literature.
