The Press

We are a small, family-run company, working together to produce the best materials for classical education the world has ever seen.

Most educational presses are run by large, international companies, which make large profits by pushing poorly-designed, grossly-overpriced books to large, institutional buyers. Not us. We’re a small company; we want to stay that way. When you call our office, you don’t get a phone tree; you get to talk to us directly. Our books aren’t written by committee; they’re produced by a small group of dedicated, skilled writers who have training, experience, and (in most cases) multiple graduate degrees.

We enjoy working in a small office on a farm. It presents us with myriad challenges and adventures. Like the time when the farm’s 200-gallon diesel tank fell over and we had to leave our typesetting and editing duties to right it. Or the time when Noodles, one of the beagles, ate several packages waiting for UPS. (We’re probably the only educational press in the world where our dogs eat your homework!)

The Online Classes

Our online courses, taught by expert instructors using classical methods, provide you with options in subjects (ranging from Chemistry and Music Theory to Advanced U.S. History) where a little outside expertise can be helpful.

We’re also proud that as we come out with more and more products, they keep getting better and better.

Many parents rely on The Well-Trained Mind (first published in 1999, now in its 4th edition!) as their homeschooling authority. The book’s authors, Susan Wise Bauer and Jessie Wise, direct Well-Trained Mind Press.
