The publishing house “Edition La Decouverte” was founded in 1983, succeeding the publishing house “Edition François Maspero” (which was also founded in 1959). La Decouverte is primarily concerned with publishing non-fiction books, as it publishes books that encourage contemplation and interpretation of the world’s transformations through the conscious and critical lens of their authors.Its catalog is primarily devoted to publication in the humanities, but articles, documents, journals, comics and comic books are also present and contribute in all their forms to the exploration of new research frontiers in a large number of disciplines, such as: anthropology, philosophy, sociology, history, economics, political science and geopolitics, mainly.La Decouverte is chaired by Stephanie Chevrier, President since April 2018, and surrounded by a management committee composed of Marine Lormaux, General Secretary, Rémi Toulouse and Bruno Auerbach, Literary Directors, Stephanie Gautier, Marketing and Commercial Director, Pascal Iltis, Director of Press Service and Communications, and Caroline Robert, Production Director.
The company, with a staff of 24, offers about 160 titles a year (including 30 new editions and about thirty magazine issues).In 1998, La Decouverte Publishing joined the Havas Group (which became Vivendi Universal Publishing in 2001, then Editis in 2004), and developed its business while fully maintaining its editorial independence. In early 2002, the Cyrus Jeunesse division was sold to Nathan Jeunesse, and the collections of the Cyrus Essays division were merged into La Decouverte.
